During the whole year it is possible to wander around Monte Carmo and
to enjoy the wonderful landscapes of the coast, the hinterland and the Alps. These mountains present a rich variety
of plants (changing their colours and forms with the different seasons) and some rare endemic flowers. This aerea
is considered the phytogeographic border between the Alps and the Apennines; moreover you can find here some alpine
species and there is a clear difference between the Po environment of the northern side and the mediterranean one
of the southern side.
Wherever you choose to go wonderful flowers cheer up your walks across fields and woods, for example to the rock
"Rocca dell'Avio", to the mountain refuge "Rifugio Pian delle Bosse" or to the top of Monte
Carmo (4232 feet), to the summit "Giogo di Giustenice" or to S.Pietro in Varatella.
For almost ten months a year these paths are a real pleasure for botanists as for excursioners, some of the most
important are described below.
Also the entomologists find this area particularly interesting because of some peculiar insects and the multicoloured
butterflies (among them the wonderful 'Parnassius apollo').
As many species are protected and we all like to enjoy the beauty of nature, it is strongly recommended not to
pick up flowers and plants or damage the environment. Possible sanctions can be applied.
